PROJECT OVERVIEW
The main objective of the project of the Operational Group TOMAGROUP is the development of sustainable agricultural biostimulants through the valorization of cherry tomato residue generated during its cultivation and commercialization. These biostimulant products will be aimed at improving the growth, yield, stress response, and quality of tomato crop fruits, thus promoting Bioeconomy and Circular Fertilization around this horticultural crop.
The innovative nature of this project lies in the application of physical and enzymatic treatments to enhance the bioaccessibility of the nutritional and bioactive compounds present in tomato residue.
The anticipated outcomes will be the development of a novel agricultural input whose biostimulant potential will be evaluated in vitro and in a field trial in tomato cultivation.
Therefore, the project will bring significant benefits to the companies involved in tomato cultivation and fertilization by promoting sector innovation through a more efficient use of resources, leveraging and valorizing generated residues and waste, and making the cultivation of this valuable vegetable economically more viable, sustainable, productive, and competitive.
