The Biorevaleaf Project: Transforming Olive Leaves into Superfoods with Great Success and Media Impact
At the CIDAF Technological Center, we are proud to share the progress and impact of the Biorevaleaf project, an innovative initiative that is revolutionizing the agri-food industry. This project aims to transform olive leaves, a traditionally discarded agricultural byproduct, into healthy and functional ingredients, capable of enriching human nutrition.
From its early stages, Biorevaleaf has achieved resounding success, both in the scientific and business fields. The project’s researchers, from the University of Granada and CIDAF, have successfully demonstrated that olive leaves contain high-value bioactive compounds, such as antioxidants, fiber, and polyphenols, which can contribute to improving human health and offer functional benefits in food. This innovative approach not only adds value to an agro-industrial byproduct, but also responds to the growing demand for more sustainable and healthy foods.
The project’s impact has gone beyond laboratories and has received extensive media coverage, underlining the relevance of this research. Biorevaleaf has been featured in major national media outlets, such as Granada Hoy, Agroinformación, ABC Sevilla, Granada Digital, Huffington Post, and Xataka, highlighting the potential of this new superfood to transform the food industry and generate a positive impact on the environment.
This media resonance not only reflects the success of the project, but has also generated a growing interest from companies in the agri-food sector, which see in CIDAF’s research an opportunity to develop new products that take advantage of the properties of olive leaves. Thanks to this great momentum, the Biorevaleaf team is expanding its horizons and strengthening its collaboration with different key actors in the sector. The leading company in this project is Torres Morente, which, with Aceites Maeva, has experienced remarkable growth in its business volume in recent years. In 2019, the company reached an international turnover of 72%, with exports accounting for more than 70% of its annual sales.
Additionally, in 2014, it ranked among the 10 highest-grossing companies in Granada, highlighting its presence in international markets and its continuous growth in the olive oil sector. Its focus on quality and internationalization has allowed it to increase its exports and expand its global presence. This success reflects its positive impact on the extra virgin olive oil market.
At the CIDAF Technological Center, we are committed to innovation and sustainability, and projects like Biorevaleaf are a clear example of how science and technology can contribute to improving human health, environmental conservation, and business development. We are excited about the results obtained so far and trust that, as the project advances, Biorevaleaf will continue to be a source of inspiration for future research and food solutions.
With the success obtained and media coverage, there is no doubt that Biorevaleaf is marking a turning point in the biotechnology and agri-food industry. We will remain attentive to its evolution and the new developments that this innovative project will undoubtedly bring!.
