The Macroalgae Operational Group was created with the goal of adding value to the macroalgae from our Andalusian coasts. 🌱💚 Through the extraction of bioactive compounds, we are developing bio-inputs with biostimulant and/or biocidal effects for agricultural applications, all using sustainable, economical, and scalable production methods.
Recently, representatives from the organizations involved in this exciting project met at the CIDAF headquarters, where we discussed the progress made and the next steps to take. Participants in the project include Cooperativas Agroalimentarias de Granada, CIDAF Centro Tecnológico (technical coordinator), Centro Tecnológico Tecnova, Química Masul, and CTAQUA Centro Tecnológico de Acuicultura (as a collaborator and advisor).
The most innovative aspect of the ‘Macroalgae’ project lies in the creation of new agricultural bio-inputs using sustainable extraction technology with GRAS solvents (ethanol and water), thus adding value to macroalgae, some of which are invasive species.
The results we are achieving are promising 🌾✨ Moreover, this project will strengthen the ties between the agricultural, chemical, and research sectors, generating employment opportunities and fostering the growth of small macroalgae-producing businesses in Andalusia. 🚀👩🌾
This initiative is part of the Rural Development Program of the Junta de Andalucía 2014-2020, financed by the Junta de Andalucía, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water, and Rural Development of the Junta de Andalucía, and the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development.
📹 And that’s not all! During our meeting, we also recorded the presentation video, which we will soon share on our social media platforms. Stay tuned! 🎥👀
