PROJECT OVERVIEW

The main objective of the project of the Operational Group MACROALGAE is to revalorize macroalgae produced in Andalusia by extracting the bioactive compounds present and developing bioinputs with bio-stimulating and/or biocidal effects for agricultural applications, using environmentally friendly, cost-effective, and scalable production methods.

The innovative character of the present proposal lies in the creation of new agricultural bioinputs with bio-stimulating and/or biocidal effects. To achieve this, the application of a solvent extraction technology GRAS (ethanol and water) is proposed as a sustainable, low-cost, and reproducible alternative, revaluing the macroalgae produced in Andalusia.

The anticipated outcomes with the execution of the Project are the revaluation of bioactive compounds from macroalgae produced in Andalusia, incorporating this fraction into new formulations of bioinputs for agricultural application with bio-stimulating and/or biocidal effects. Additionally, this operational group will strengthen links between the agricultural and chemical sectors and research organizations, benefiting both the agricultural sector and bioinput suppliers, with the possibility of job creation through the growth of sector companies or the development of small businesses producing macroalgae cultivated in Andalusia for their use and revaluation.
